The development of the Spanish Academy forVocational Training in Hebron arose as a resultof work done betweenthe Hebron RehabilitationCommittee and the SpanishCooperation (AECID). Inessence, the Academy isdesigned to conserve thecultural heritage of the OldCity, primarily throughempowering the city’s youthto take an active role in this preservation.
In order to achieve this aim,the Academy will train theeconomically and sociallylimited youth of Hebronin traditional crafts. At thesame time, this trainingwill raise awareness of theimportance of maintaining,preserving and continuingtheir cultural heritage.Ultimately, these youth willbe prepared to enter thelabor force, utilizing theirnewfound skills and takingan active role in preservingtheir cultural heritage.
The Vision of the Academy is to help restoretrade through traditional crafts in the OldCity, thereby re-building the value of culturalheritage and ultimately preserving it. Ourmission is to train the youth from ages 17-25to become skilled in a particular craft, whichthey may then utilize as an active part ofthe labor force. The overall objective is toimprove the living conditions of the youth ofHebron who have been adversely affected bysocial, economic and cultural exclusion.
