On July 23, 2017, HRC reported that the Israeli occupation forces stormed a building owned by Mr. Sulaiman Mohammed al-Shweiki, without any military order or legal warrant, but under claimed security pretexts. The building is in the Qaitoun area in Hebron's Old City. Indeed, the building is located in a hotspot area as it overlooks the vegetable market and Al-Shuhada Street. The building consists of two floors and used as a workshop for molding and storing glass.
The General Director of Hebron Rehabilitation Committee (HRC), Emad Hamdan, stated that the reconstruction committee followed up the matter with the respective authorities and objected to this attack. HRC has explained that the presence of the Israeli occupation forces in the building intimidates the neighbors at nighttime and restricts their movement during the day.
Hamdan has also expressed his concerns that this attack is only a starting point of a Zionist plan. The plan includes exerting pressure on the Palestinian population to flee the area to be fully Judaized afterwards. That would be a flagrant violation of UNESCO's decision to inscribe the Old City of Hebron to the World Heritage list as a Palestinian site.
