The Governor of Hebron Governorate, Mr. Kamil Hmaid and General Director of the Hebron Rehabilitation Committee, Mr. Emad Hamdan, received the Grand Mufti of the Chechen Republic, Sheikh Mohammed Saleh Salahuddin Majidov, on Saturday the 14th of April as well as an accompanying delegation. They were briefed on the general situation in the Old City and taken to the Ibrahimi Mosque.
Mr. Hmaid explained the nature of the political situation in Hebron. He briefed the delegation on settler and occupation forces' practices in the Old City, including their constant attempts to displace Palestinians from their homes and attempts to change the features of the Old City through attacks on schools, mosques and shops. He also referred to collective punishment and siege imposed on the local government.
In turn, Mr. Hamdan reviewed the ongoing Israeli violations such as closures, the deployment of checkpoints, building settlements, expansion of existing settlements, and establishing of the separation wall and other practices that have contributed in the deterioration of all sectors, especially in the Old City. He also referred to the projects implemented by Hebron Rehabilitation Committee which aim to improve the situation on the ground in the Hebron.
The Grand Mufti of Chechnya stressed the importance of traveling to Palestine and visiting both Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Ibrahimi Mosque, as well as of protect to protect these holy sites from the forces of the occupation and strengthening the steadfastness of Palestinian citizens.
